It is a source of pride to be the pioneering company in large-scale energy storage in batteries within the Brazilian transmission system. We energized the country's first project in 2022 at the Registro Substation (SP), one of the facilities responsible for supplying electricity to the southern coast of São Paulo state.
Energy storage
Why is this initiative a milestone for Brazil?
The technology is essential for driving the energy transition in the country. It facilitates the integration of renewable sources by compensating for the variability of intermittent energy generation. This allows for the incorporation of wind and solar sources into the National Interconnected System (SIN), thereby reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
- The variability of wind and solar power plants affects the stability and security of the national electric system.
- Unlike hydroelectric and thermoelectric plants, these renewable sources are not dispatchable, meaning they cannot be activated at any moment.
- With an abundance of wind and solar resources, Brazil has the potential to become a global leader in the development of essential technological innovations for the energy transition.
- The project is fundamental for the Brazilian electric sector.
- The large-scale energy storage system using batteries is the next technological frontier, contributing to the decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization of the electric sector.
Innovation in the energy sector
The project, innovative for the energy sector, acts as a laboratory for discussions on energy storage. The immediate response and flexibility of batteries are essential characteristics for the power transmission network, contributing to reduced operational costs and the efficient expansion of the system.
Additionally, the solution is versatile and can be reused in other regions of the country that require reinforcement of energy infrastructure.

Benefits
- Prevents power supply interruptions due to excess load demand. After the system began operations in 2022, two peak shavings occurred, which is the process of discharging stored energy in the system to reduce load peaks and avoid supply interruptions, on December 31 of that year and in 2023.
- Modular containers can be transported to locations with higher energy demand.
- The system avoids the construction of new transmission lines, helping to reduce environmental impact.
- Enables the integration of new renewable sources.
- Increases security, reliability, and sustainability in the energy supply to society.
