Itatiaia

Our projects

The venture carries out a crucial role in the distribution of renewable energy, by directing solar energy generated specifically for the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro. This reduces the load on the Governador Valadares 6 substation.

The project was awarded in Lot 7 of Transmission Auction No. 01/23.

Location
  • The states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro
  • Benefited area: the two states, taking into consideration the expectation of contracting large quantities of energy coming from these enterprises of renewable energy, such as solar and wind farms.
Investment
  • R$ 2.3 billion (investment forecasted by ANEEL)
  • Allowed Annual Revenue (RAP): R$ 218.9 million
  • Jobs created: 4,182
Operation
  • 1 transmission line of 500 kV
  • 1 substation
  • 522 km of double-circuit transmission lines, totaling 1,044 km

Why is the project called Itatiaia?

The Itatiaia National Park is the first national park in Brazil, created in June 1937. Located in the Serra da Mantiqueira, the park covers the municipalities of Itatiaia and Resende in the State of Rio de Janeiro and Bocaina de Minas and Itamonte in the State of Minas Gerais.

Within the park, one can find Atlantic Forest vegetation and various animal species, such as muriqui monkeys, toucans, and the southeastern fan palm. The region also features stunning waterfalls (like Véu da Noiva) and rocky peaks (such as Agulhas Negras).
