This project represents a significant advance in generating sustainable value. In addition to enabling the expansion of energy evacuation capacity in the northern region of Minas Gerais, where renewable energy production is substantial, it contributes to the expansion of the country’s electrical transmission system.
The project was awarded in lot 3 of the Transmission Auction No. 01/22.
Why is the project named Piraquê?
The Piraquê Project is named after the Piraquê Açu River, located in the municipality of Aracruz. This river originates in the IBAMA Forest (Nova Lombardia or Augusto Ruschi Ecological Reserve) at an altitude of 1,000 meters in the municipality of Santa Tereza. It flows through João Neiva and reaches the municipality of Aracruz at the Santa Maria locality, where a dam was used for power generation.
The Piraquê Açu River is the primary source of water for the region, serving approximately 140,000 people. The river basin represents the largest mangrove area in the state of Espírito Santo and is of significant ecological importance. It is a highly biodiverse ecosystem that plays a crucial role in local society, including food supply, preservation of culinary traditions, income generation, and tourism.
