Why is the project called Riacho Grande?

Riacho Grande is a neighborhood located in the ABC region, an area that has been occupied since the 16th century. The region was a crossing point connecting the plateau to the São Paulo coast, hosting inns and ranches that have since disappeared, which served travelers. The former Vila do Riacho Grande, from which the current district headquarters originated, developed near the Old Santos Road, from the colonial Rio Grande line. This area, like much of the district, has been partially occupied by the Billings Reservoir since 1927.

In the Riacho Grande area, water is also collected and treated by Sabesp, the São Paulo state sanitation company, for subsequent distribution to municipalities in the Greater ABC region.
