ISA CTEEP is one of the 150 most innovative companies in 2022 Brazil Valor Innovation Award

São Paulo, July 27, 2022 – ISA CTEEP, leader in the energy transmission sector in the country, is one of the 150 organizations that stand out in their innovation practices, nominated by the eighth edition of 2022 Brazil Valor Innovation Award, organized by Valor Econômico newspaper, in partnership with Strategy& consulting.

The ranking methodology is based on five pillars of the innovation chain: the intention to innovate; the effort to carry out innovation; results obtained; market assessment and knowledge generation.

Based on a model developed specifically for Brazilian context and on qualitative and quantitative indicators, the research points out the companies adopting the best innovation management, their investments in local market and results achieved.

“We celebrate this nomination as an important recognition and thermometer for the initiatives developed in different areas of the company. A result that highlights both the good performance of our innovation strategy, aligned with the sector needs, as well as the engagement of our people to make the culture of innovation present in everything we do", emphasizes Silvia Wada, executive officer of strategy and business development of ISA CTEEP.

Innovation at the core of digitalization, decarbonization and decentralization

The Company develops the open innovation program, whereby innovation agents act as protagonists to identify opportunities in the innovation ecosystem and submit solutions to strengthen the generation of sustainable value. In 2021, 160 startups were involved in innovation challenges, which contributed to the progress of digitization.

Last year, ISA CTEEP invested, with funds from the Research and Development program of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), R$ 23.6 million in innovation projects, 68% increase as compared to 2020.

Check out our outstanding initiatives:

  • Energy storage
First large-scale battery energy storage project in Brazilian transmission system, which will be installed in November 2022, at Registro Substation (SP), and will operate at times of peak consumption, as a reinforcement to the power grid, avoiding interruption in energy supply in the south coast of São Paulo. The planned investment is R$ 146 million, authorized by the regulator.
  • Digital Substation and Substation 4.0
Digital substation in Lorena (SP), the first in the National Interconnected System (SIN). Among the main benefits and differentials, we highlight the system’s increased robustness, with a more accurate and reliable decision making; sustainability, with 50% reduction in the use of cables and structures and, consequently, less waste generation for the environment; and improved safety for employees. For this project, implemented in 2021, the investment planned by the regulator was R$ 238 million.
In addition, the Company conducts the innovation project for development of Substation 4.0 concept, through requirements and performance studies pf a protection, control, automation and monitoring system, with the implementation of a pilot project as a testing platform at Jaguariúna substation (SP).
  • Drones for asset construction, operation and maintenance
Pioneering in the use of drones for maintenance and operation of assets, including the launch of drones to incinerate objects that fall into transmission lines, such as kites and balloons, to ensure more safety for employees, by avoiding the need for climbing, in addition to reducing more than 80% of the time for object removal and, in many cases, the line disconnection to perform the services.
  • Implementation of the Digital Image Analysis Center (Caid), which is responsible for digitalizing activities of aerial inspection of assets carried out by drones, providing a productivity gain of more than 50% compared to the manual process. With the images analyzed at the company's central office, it is possible to identify anomalies in the energy network, to anticipate maintenance, reduce the number of equipment failures and provide increased reliability in the provision of service.
  • Artificial intelligence in operation
Application of artificial intelligence in the Operations Center, aiming at increasing asset reliability and resilience. With the system support, it was possible to reduce by 60% the information displayed to operators during occurrences and disturbances in the system, to increase situational awareness, mitigate risks and improve the quality of work.
