TAESA AND ISA CTEEP DELIVER TRANSMISSION LINE THAT TAKES POWER GENERATED IN THE NORTHEAST TO THE SOUTHEAST REGION

  • With an approximate investment of R$ 425 million, energizing the Aimorés Electric Interconnection is strategic for the power flow from the National Interconnected System (SIN)

May 2022 -
Electric power transmitters TAESA and ISA CTEEP have just completed the construction of the Aimorés Electric Interconnection, located in the state of Minas Gerais and formed by the 208-kilometer 500 kV Padre Paraíso 2 – Governador Valadares 6 transmission line. The investment made was approximately R$ 425 million and the Allowed Annual Revenue (RAP) is R$ 87 million (2021/2022 tariff cycle).

The project is key to take power from renewable sources generated in the Northeastern region to the Southeast, the region with the highest load consumption, increasing the country's power reliability and security. In addition, the project also reinforces the local transmission system, facilitating the internal power flow produced in Southern Bahia, equalizing supply and consumption in the state.

“The expansion of the power transmission network is one of the most important aspects of the electricity sector today. The inauguration of Aimorés contributes positively to the country's energy security and reinforces the reliability of the National Interconnected System (SIN), contributing to the flow and transport of renewable power generated in the Northeast”, comments Luís Alessandro Alves, TAESA's Implementation Officer.

“We have energized yet another important project for the Brazilian electrical system and I am sure that we are advancing in our strategy of national expansion with sustainable value generation, benefiting society with the interconnection of sources that generate renewable energy to large consumption centers”, adds Dayron Urrego, Projects Executive Officer at ISA CTEEP.

The works started in 2017 and generated around 1,200 jobs, with significant hiring of local workforce. During construction, the transmission line cables were launched with the use of drones in places with dense vegetation, avoiding the cutting of native forest.

A preserved area of 237 hectares was also donated to be added to the Mata do Passarinho Natural Heritage Private Reserve, the only place where the Entudo-baiano is found, one of the most endangered bird species on the planet.

The Aimorés Electric Interconnection, purchased in Batch 04 of the transmission auction held in 2015, was built by Aliança Interligação Elétrica (AIE), a consortium involving both companies, in an equal proportion of 50%.
